The invention relates to optical instrument making. Disclosed is a material for application of layers with low refraction index for interference coatings on optical elements based on fluoride. Complex compound PbHfFis used as a fluoride. The invention provides the material having sufficiently low refraction index, wide range of optical transparency and not large optical losses in the layer.
