A method for defining the indications and contraindications to pneumonectomy, pleuropneumonectomy, lobectomy, combined resection and thoracoplasty in the patients with tuberculosis of the lungs and pleura provides for the profound clinical examination with X-ray examination of the lungs, bronchoscopy, the functional assessment of the state of respiratory and cardiovascular system, liver, kidneys, endocrine organs. X-ray pneupolygram is taken. For assessing the indications to the surgery, the optical density of each quadrant is measured that is characteristic of the functional state of the specified segments of the lungs. The movements of the cupolas of diaphragm, the ribs and the mediastinum is also examined.
