The invention provides a method for preciselypredicting the metabolism of a drug in human liver and theeffect of the drug on liver function. The invention providesa method for predicting a metabolite of a test substanceproduced in human liver and functions of the liver, whereinthe method includes administering a test substance to anonhuman chimeric animal and a non-chimeric animal of thesame species, wherein the chimeric animal intracorporeallycarries a population of human-origin hepatocytes havingproliferation potential and in which the hepatocytepopulation substantially functions as the liver of thechimeric animal, and wherein these animals are protected fromthe attack by a human complement produced by the hepatocytes;and analyzing and comparing metabolites from the chimericanimal and the non-chimeric animal.
