The invention relates to the field of electrical engineering and in particular to lightning protection means for high-voltage overhead electrical transmission lines (OL). The technical result of the invention consists in increasing the reliability and technological effectiveness of OL lightning protection. The device comprises a nonlinear resistor (1) in the form of a column of varistors enclosed in an insulating housing. The resistor (1) is attached to a crosspiece (2) of an OL post with the aid of a bracket (3). In a second variant, a post insulator (9) is additionally attached to the bracket (3). In the first variant, a spark gap (4) is formed between the conductor (5) of the OL and a discharge electrode (7) on a lower flange (8) of the resistor (1), while in the second variant, a spark gap is formed between a first discharge electrode (10) and a second discharge electrode (7) in the form of a metal torus. The electrode (10) is attached to the lower flange (8) of the resistor (1). In the first variant, the electrode (7) extends in a direction perpendicular to the conductor (5), while in the second variant, the electrode extends in the direction of the resistor (1). The dimensions of the spark gap (4) and the electrode (7) and the electrical parameters of the nonlinear resistor together comply with the ratios given in the description. An OL which is equipped with the proposed lightning protection devices is substantially less likely to be subject to outages as a result of lightning strikes in the case of the OL being installed in regions with poor ground conductivity.
