The invention relates to a novel strain of microalgae of the Odontella genus, which is capable of growing in mixotrophic mode, and to a method for selecting and growing such a strain that enables the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids, in particular EPA and DHA, in heterotrophic or mixotrophic mode.
