In a method for operating an injection molding machine and an injection molding machine, comprising at least two toggle lever mechanisms (K) having two separate drive units (A), at least one injection cycle is carried out while displacing the displaceable mold carrier (11) toward the stationary mold carrier (12) up to mold closure, and back again away from the stationary mold carrier. Due to the fact that the parallelism between the displaceable mold carrier (11) and the stationary mold carrier (12), or the parts of an injection mold (10) attached thereon, and at least one parameter determining the output of the drive units (A) is detected during the injection cycle, the drive units (A) can be controlled independently of each other by influencing the parameter such that parallelism is achieved. In this manner, the machine requirements for high precision of molded parts can be obtained.
