The method involves determining site conditions of a motor vehicle (1) by a sensor unit (5,6) of driver assistance unit. The motor vehicle is parked forward in a transverse parking space (14) and is driven forward during certain park course. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance unit for supporting driver of a motor vehicle.
