Disclosed is a refurbishment method for increasing the compression volume and reducing the emissions of a model 6M50 feed gas compressor, said method comprising the following steps: (1) changing the composite pistons in cylinders of all grades of the compressor to one-piece pistons, the one-piece piston structure having disposed within the piston body thereof an annular cavity; (2) increasing the thickness of the pistons in cylinders of all grades by 0.5% to 0.8% compared to the standard of existing pistons in said cylinders; (3) increasing the valve plate lift of the intake valves and of the exhaust valves of cylinders of all grades by 11.5% to 13.6%; (4) increasing the equivalent flow area of the intake valves and of the exhaust valves of cylinders of all grades by 14.7% to 15.1% compared to the existing standard for said cylinders. The present refurbishment method resolves problems of serious piston wear, frequent replacement, excessive machine body vibration, and frequent, serious bushing damage, and offers advantages including ample production of design-required output power, increased compression volumes, energy savings and reduced emissions.
