The invention is characterized in that an acceleration profile (20) with a high positive acceleration value (20a) at the beginning of the advancing movement and a high negative acceleration value (20b) at the end of the advancing movement, said acceleration value (20b) being negative so as to have a decelerating effect, is stored in an analyzing device, wherein the acceleration profile is typical for the advancing movement of the mining shield (10) on the longwall conveyor (18) and is based on the walking path of the advancing movement. The acceleration values which are captured by the acceleration sensor are transmitted into the analyzing device during the advancing process of the mining shield (10) and compared with the stored acceleration profile (20). If the respective high acceleration values (20a, 20b) are absent from the measured acceleration profile (21), a detachment between the walking mechanism (19) and the longwall conveyor (18) is registered.
