METHOD FOR AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHING OFF AND STARTING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, DURING OR AFTER AN OVERRUN PHASE

The invention relates to a method for automatically switching off and starting an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle with an automatic transmission or an automated manual transmission, using a start-stop device that initiates an automatic internal combustion engine switch-off procedure during an overrun phase of said internal combustion engine, and initiates an automatic internal combustion engine start procedure when at least one switch-on prompt is present. The invention is characterised in that, in order to switch off the internal combustion engine, a charge cycle is, at the least, nearly stopped in the internal combustion engine cylinders during an internal combustion engine overrun phase, while at the same time a torque converter lock-up clutch, arranged between the internal combustion engine and the transmission for the purpose of transmitting force, is actuated such that this lock-up clutch remains, at least, near to engagement, or is fully engaged.
