When a contributing factor lacking temporal centrosymmetry is present in the channel response on an optical fiber transmission path, optimal equalization signal processing by coherent reception is difficult. Therefore, this equalization signal processing device has: an equalization filter means for inputting a coherently received digital signal; a coefficient control means for controlling the coefficients that specify the characteristics of the equalization filter means; a significant coefficient holding means for holding a significant coefficient which is a significant value from among the initial values of the coefficients; a significant coefficient position determining means for determining a significant coefficient position which is a position in the initial value of the significant coefficient, in such a way as to optimize the equalization characteristics of the equalization filter means; and a significant coefficient setting means for setting the significant coefficient at the significant coefficient position.
