Provided is technology for detecting biological particles and counting the number of biological particles in a liquid even with the effects of Raman scattering due to water.This technology is provided with: a light emitting means (10) that radiates light of a prescribed wavelength toward a liquid that contains substances to be detected; an autofluorescence selection optical means (70) that reduces Raman scattered light that has passed therethrough and had been discharged by the liquid out of the light discharged from the interaction of the substances or the liquid and the light radiated by the light emitting means (10), and allows autofluorescence discharged by the substances to pass through; and a biological particle determination means (2) that determines whether or not the substances contained in the liquid are biological particles on the basis of the light after the Raman scattering has been reduced by the autofluorescence selection optical means (70). The light emitting means (10) radiates light of the prescribed wavelength such that the autofluorescence peak wavelength and the peak wavelength for the Raman scattering differ.
