ARRANGEMENT AND METHOD FOR GENERATING ACCELERATED PARTICLES FROM TARGETS FOR RADIOTHERAPY

The invention relates to arrangements and methods for generating accelerated particles from targets for radiotherapy. Such arrangements and methods are particularly characterised in that particles of largely equivalent energy are generated for radiotherapy upon conversion of a target. Provided for this purpose is a chamber comprising at least one device for supplying - on the one hand, solid bodies from substances which are liquid or gaseous under normal conditions or - on the other hand, liquid or gaseous substances to be converted into a solid state in the chamber, so that at least one solid body of the substance is present in the chamber. The arrangement further comprises at least one laser - for cutting a free target from the body and also - for generating and accelerating particles from the target, which becomes free immediately after cutting, by irradiating the free target. Immediately after cutting, a freely suspended or falling target thus emerges from the body, which substantially determines the properties of the particle beam.
