A method for using waste lithium battery cathode material for capturing CO2 in thermal power plant, comprises the following steps: ① preparing an absorption bed of plate-type, honeycomb-type or corrugated plate-type using a recovered lithium battery cathode material as a carbon dioxide adsorbent, and placing the absorption bed in an absorption tower of carbon dioxide; and ② placing the absorption tower of carbon dioxide at a position in the boiler where the flue gas temperature is 500-750 ℃, the flue gas flowing through the adsorbent bed and directly contacting with the adsorbent to capture carbon dioxide, and the adsorbent bed being delivered to a carbon dioxide regeneration column for desorbtion when the adsorption reaches a saturated state.
