A first optical signal generation unit (110) generates a first optical signal. A second optical signal generation unit (120) generates a second optical signal. The second optical signal has an orthogonal polarization state to the first optical signal, and has the same carrier wave frequency band. A multiplexing unit (130) multiplexes the first optical signal and the second optical signal and generates an optical signal for transmission. A phase difference variation unit (140) periodically changes the phase difference between the first optical signal and the second optical signal. A separation unit (210) separates the first optical signal and the second optical signal from the optical signal for transmission. A phase difference compensation unit (220) compensates the phase difference between the first optical signal and the second optical signal added by the phase difference variation unit (140) in an optical transmission device (10).
