The invention relates to a plant for processing rolled stock, in particular metal strip, a controlling and/or regulating device, and a method for setting a tensile stress for rolled stock running through a plant (1), in particular a hot rolling plant, in particular metal strip (B), in particular hot strip, wherein the rolled stock (B) is formed as one part between a first influencing device (2) of the plant (1) for influencing the rolled stock (B) and a second influencing device (3) of the plant (1) for influencing the rolled stock (B), wherein a loop (S) of the rolled stock (B) is formed between the first and second influencing devices (2, 3) by the gravitational force of said stock. The fact that, when there is a loop (S) during the stationary operation of the plant (1), at least part of the gravitational force of the loop (S) is taken up continuously by a height-adjustable supporting device (4) supporting the loop (S) makes it possible to obtain a method and an apparatus which firstly allow more flexible rolling as a result of an increased strip storage volume and secondly make it possible for the tension of the rolled stock to be regulated.
