A paper sheet magnetism evaluation device for which a transport path in which paper sheets are transported is provided with a first detection region, wherein a bias magnetic field is generated in a region of the transport path, thereby magnetizing soft magnetic bodies and hard magnetic bodies contained in the paper sheets, and a second detection region, which is a different region than the first detection region wherein either the hard magnetic bodies or the soft magnetic bodies can be detected in a distinguishable manner from the other bodies, that is, the soft magnetic bodies or the hard magnetic bodies, by means of the strength of the magnetic field. The paper sheet magnetism evaluation device is equipped with: a first magnetic sensor, which is formed by arranging multiple magnetic detection elements in a line in the first detection region, and which scans the paper sheets and detects the soft magnetic bodies and the hard magnetic bodies contained in the paper sheets; and a second magnetic sensor, which is formed by arranging in the second detection region a number of magnetic detection elements different from the number of the magnetic detection elements forming the first magnetic sensor, and which scans the paper sheets and detects either the hard magnetic bodies or the soft magnetic bodies contained in the paper sheets with a resolution different from that of the first magnetic sensor.
