Method for levying charges on vehicles in an open road toll system

The method involves reading out transaction information and factor from respective memories of an on-board unit (3) through a short-range radio interface (4) into toll beacons (B1,B2,B3). The factor is updated as a function of read-out- transaction information and a debit amount is calculated. A debit request is sent with calculated debit amount and updated factor from toll beacon to on-board unit. The received debit amount is debited to toll credit account. The new transaction information and received updated factor are written into respective memories of on-board unit.
