CYCLOMETALATED AU(III) COMPLEXES SUITABLE FOR ELECTROLUMINESCENT DEVICES

A process for the preparation of monocyclometalated Au(III) complexes, cis- [(N^∧C)AuL₁L₂] and czs-[(N^∧C)AuL₁AL₂] represented by generic chemical formulae la and lb respectively with ligands L₁ and L₂ being either similar (L₁=L₂) or dissimi lar (L₁≠ L₂) but with at least one of either (L₁ or L₂) comprising a σ-donating carbanionic group is described here. L₃ in formula lc denotes a neutral donor ligand bound in a tridentate fashion. The complexes depicted by the formulae 1a, 1b and 1c in the present invention are suitable as emissive phosphorescent organometallic materials in OLEDs.
