PURPOSE: A friction damper using a shape memory alloy is provided to remove vibration by operating as a damper when the large vibration of low frequencies is applied and to obtain vibration proof performance by lowering damping force when the small vibration of high frequencies is applied.;CONSTITUTION: A friction damper using a shape memory alloy comprises a cylinder(110), a piston rod(120), a friction member(130), a friction member housing(140), a shape memory alloy member(150). The cylinder has a predetermined space in inside. The piston rod is moved to a vertical direction in the inside of the cylinder. The friction member generates damping force by being rubbed with the outer circumference of the piston rod. The friction member housing is formed in the cylinder so that the fictional member is received. The shape memory alloy member is respectively connected to both end portions of the friction member along a longitudinal direction of the piston rod in the inside of the friction member housing. The shape memory alloy member is inserted into the inside of the friction member. The shape memory alloy member is transformed by heat caused by a current applied from outside and increase the volume of the friction member, thereby selectively fixing the friction member.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2013
