PURPOSE: A relieving lathe with a linear motor for controlling the cutting of a cutting tool is provided to reduce process time with continuous turning operations because the longitudinal movement of a cutting tool is controlled by the relatively changed positions of magnet plates and a coil.;CONSTITUTION: A relieving lathe with a linear motor for controlling the cutting of a cutting tool comprises a linear motor(20) installed in a machining table(7). The linear motor comprises multiple magnet plates(21), a coil(22), and an encoder(23). The multiple magnet plates and the coil control the longitudinally transferred length of the machining table from a saddle(4). The encoder inputs and outputs signals that the relative positions of the magnet plates and the coil are detected.
