PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting a disconnection number according to the resistance design of a glow plug are provided to prevent a start failure and engine misfire caused in advance.;CONSTITUTION: An apparatus and method for detecting a disconnection number according to the resistance design of a glow plug comprises an IPS unit(150), a disconnection detecting unit(160), and a diagnostic signal generating unit(170). The IPS unit measures the value of current flowing in the glow plug. The disconnection detecting unit detects the disconnection number of the glow plug by the whole resistance value corresponding to the measured current value. The disconnection detecting unit detects the number of disconnection in the glow plug by checking the range of the resistance value.
