PURPOSE: A novel delta-6 desaturase gene derived from Muraenesox cinereus and a transformant containing the same are provided to obtain an oil seed which produces functional gamma-linolenic acid.;CONSTITUTION: A gene encoding delta-6 desaturase derived from Muraenesox cinereus has a nucleic acid sequence of sequence number 1. A method for preparing a transformant comprises: a step of preparing an expression vector containing DNA sequence encoding delta-6 desaturase; a step of introducing the expression vector into a host cell; and a step of selecting a transfornmant containing the expression vector.
