PURPOSE: A direct switching multilevel inverter having a shunt sensor and a method for restoring the phase current of the multilevel inverter are provided to reduce the core loss of a load through multilevel output voltage, minimize the loss of the inverter, compose a sensor with a shunt resistance at a multilevel inverter, detect the current of a shunt sensor for enabling PWM control, and offer a voltage inputting method for expanding the phase current detection region of the multilevel inverter. CONSTITUTION: A multilevel inverter comprises a DC link part which is connected to a DC power end(10) and composed of N-1 capacitors. The multilevel inverter comprises a switch part consisting of the N switches installed between the both ends and a load end of the N-1 capacitors of the DC link part. The multilevel inverter comprises a control part which supplies N multilevel voltage to a load end by controlling on and off operations of the N switches of the switch part. The multilevel inverter comprises a shunt sensor for detecting phase current between the DC link part and the switch part. [Reference numerals] (10) DC power end; (40) Load end;
