PURPOSE: A device for determining relative distances and locations by using GPS(Global Positioning System) information and a method thereof are provided to acquire relative distances between multiple terminals individually equipped with a GPS receiver and locations of the terminals, to improve the efficiency and accuracy of positioning by performing satellite information exchange through ad hoc communications, and to enable effective management of dangerous situations around, which can affect the operation of a mobile object itself.;CONSTITUTION: Each terminal receives GPS information by using a GPS receiver(210). A first terminal exchanges GPS information with a second terminal by using wireless communications(220). The first terminal compares its own GPS information with the GPS information of the second terminal, and selects a common GPS satellite where the GPS information coincides with each other(230). Absolute coordinates of the first terminal and second terminal are produced by using the selected common satellite(240).
