PURPOSE: A negative electrode active material is provided to provide a negative electrode for lithium secondary batteries with excellent electric performance and to be simply manufactured. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode active material comprises a composite particle which is chemically coupled with ZnO and MnO. The composite particle has an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less. A manufacturing method of a negative electrode active material comprises a step of molding a composite particle which is chemically coupled with ZnO and MnO by treating ZnMn2O4 powder in an inert or reduction atmosphere. The heat treatment is conducted at 600-900 C for 4-10 hours. The ZnMn2O4 powder is prepared by a solvothermal synthesis method or a co-precipitation method.
