PURPOSE: A device for detecting surface cracks of a hot slab is provided to utilize an image process algorithm, thereby enabling the total inspection of the hot slab hard to confirm with unaided eyes.;CONSTITUTION: A device (200) for detecting surface cracks of a hot slab includes a Gabor filter (210), a candidate path selection module (220), a feature extraction module (230), and a crack detection module (240). The Gabor filter filters slab images. The candidate path selection module generates paths as much as the number of rows of the filtered slab images and selects a path having a cost value smaller than that of an adjoining path as a candidate path. The cost value is the sum of pixel values of the pixels included in the corresponding path among the generated paths. The feature extraction module extracts features of the selected candidate path and a region of interest (ROI) including the selected candidate path.
