PURPOSE: A method and a device for detecting a jagged area are provided to detect an area where jaggedness occurs based on brightness and directionality, thereby finding the jagged area more correctly. CONSTITUTION: A color coordinate converter (301) generates i*j color transformed data by transforming respective color coordinates of i*j image data. A jaggedness determination unit (302) defines one unit pixel of the i*j unit pixels as a center pixel and k unit pixels surrounding the center pixel as neighboring unit pixels. The jaggedness determination unit determines whether the center pixel belongs to an area where jaggedness occurs based on the color transformed data corresponding to the center pixel and the neighboring pixels.
