PURPOSE: A method for detecting liver cancer using liver cancer-specific hypermethylated CpG sequence is provided to accurately and quickly diagnose liver cancer compared with a well-known method using serum which is a non-invasive sample. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting liver cancer or liver cancer progression comprises the steps of: isolating DNA from a clinical sample; and detecting methylation at 47,909,729th-47,911,349th sequences of chromosome #1 which is a biomarker for liver cancer. A kit for diagnosing liver cancer contains a methylated site of 47,909,729th-47,911,349th sequences of chromosome #1. A nucleic acid chip for diagnosing liver cancer contains a probe which is hybridized with a fragment containing the methylated site.
