A system for downloading broadcasting program guide information and a method thereof are provided to download broadcasting program guide information quickly without installing an internet connection device in a digital broadcasting receiver and enable a user to receive only desired broadcasting program guide information. A system for downloading broadcasting program guide information includes a content providing server(100), an external communication device(200), and a digital broadcasting receiver(300). The content providing server provides broadcasting program guide information. The external communication device downloads broadcasting program guide information by connecting to the content providing server. The digital broadcasting receiver downloads the broadcasting program guide information stored in the external communication device and stores the downloaded broadcasting program guide information in a memory medium.
