PURPOSE: A composition containing green tea acetone extract for preventing and treating macular degeneration is provided. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating macular degeneration contains green tea acetone extract as an active ingredient. The extract contains lutein of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared by dipping dried green tea leaf powder in acetone, filtering, placing the liquid at 4 to -20C for 12-24 hours to remove impurities, adding saturated saline solution, distilled water, and hexane, and hexane fractioning. A health food for preventing and treating macular degeneration contains the green tea acetone extract as an active ingredient.
