PURPOSE: A high efficiency air source heat pump device and a control method thereof are provided to reduce the heating expenses and maintain the expenses to improve the driving efficiency by automatically driving a heat pump under an optimal driving condition. CONSTITUTION: An air source heat pump device(200) comprises a heat pump(210), a thermal storage tank(220), a heating means(230), an external sensor, a thermal storage temperature sensor, an evaporator temperature sensor, an internal temperature sensor, a monitoring system, a timer, and a control unit. The external sensor senses sunset and sunrise and is comprised of an illumination sensor or a solar module sensor. The thermal storage temperature sensor measures the temperature of warm water stored inside a thermal storage. The evaporator temperature sensor is installed in an evaporator inside the heat pump and measures the temperature of the evaporator to defrost the evaporator. The internal temperature sensor measures the internal temperature of a house. The monitoring system confirms the driving state of the heat pump. The timer sets the driving start time and driving stop time in order for the heat pump to drive high in outdoor temperature. The control unit controls the driving of the heat pump according to the sunset or sunrise and to quantity the external light measured through the external sensor and thermal storage temperature sensor.
