PURPOSE: A sound absorbing material with excellent sound absorbing efficiency and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve a sound absorbing rate and transmission loss by forming an air layer and a large surface area maximizing viscous loss and a dissipation route of incident sound energy. CONSTITUTION: A sound absorbing material comprises 50-80 wt% of a polymorphic cross section fiber and 20-50 wt% of a binder fiber. The polymorphic cross section fiber is selected from a group formed in a hexagonal star shape, a three rods flat shape, a six leaves shape, and an eight leaves shape. The length of the polymorphic cross section fiber is 35-65 mm. The fineness of the polymorphic cross section fiber is 1.0-7.0 De. The binder fiber partially connects a plurality of polymorphic cross section fibers. The binder fiber contains low melting point elastomer with 50-80 % of an elastic restoring rate. The binder fiber is a composite fiber. A resisting elasticity rate of the sound absorbing material is 50-80 %.
