PURPOSE: A financial device and a malfunction cause detecting method thereof are provided to quickly check a communication malfunction cause of an automatic teller machine without replacing hardware. CONSTITUTION: A financial device includes a plurality of financial device modules and a control device (100). The financial device modules process financial transactions. The control device includes a main control unit (110), a relay unit (140), and a relay control unit (130). The main control unit controls financial transaction processing through communication with the financial device modules and determines a communication malfunction cause by forming a loop back circuit during communication malfunction. The main control unit controls communication with the financial device modules or financial transaction processing and senses communication malfunction. The relay unit is placed between the financial device modules and the main control unit. The relay control unit controls the switch operation of the relay unit when the communication malfunction is notified.
