A biometric information registration device includes: a biometric information acquiring unit which acquires a user's biometric information and generates a biometric image representing the biometric information; an input unit which acquires the user's identification information; a storage unit; and a processing unit. The processing unit detects from the biometric image a moderately blurred region having a first degree of blurring, detects from the biometric image a highly blurred region having a second degree of blurring which is higher than the first degree of burring, identifies the cause of the occurrence of the highly blurred region and the moderately blurred region based on whether the highly blurred region is detected and whether the moderately blurred region is detected within a search area defined adjacent to the highly blurred region, presents to the user a warning message which is different according to the cause of the occurrence of the blurred regions, and when at least one or the other of the highly blurred region and the moderately blurred region is detected from the biometric image initially acquired, then stores data concerning the user's biometric information represented in the biometric image into the storage unit by associating the data with the user's identification information after the biometric image has been regenerated by the biometric information acquiring unit reacquiring the user's biometric information in response to the warning message.
