Picture Mode Controller for Flat Panel and Flat Panel Display Device Including the same

An apparatus for controlling image modes for a flat panel and a flat display apparatus including the same are provided to enhance reliability by displaying alternately video image and black image on an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel. An apparatus for controlling image modes includes an input unit, a first pseudo timing signal generating unit(22), a first selecting unit(24), and a selection controller(28). The input unit receives a first timing signal for instructing a transmission interval of pixel data and a second timing signal for instructing the transmission time of respective pixel data. The first pseudo timing signal generating unit generates a first pseudo timing signal as the first timing signal. The first selecting unit selectively outputs the first timing signal and the first pseudo timing signal and controls to set video and black image modes. The selection controller controls the selection operation of the first selecting unit based on the first and second timing signals.
