FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: method involves adding a composition of a hydrogen sulphide scavenger to asphalt. The hydrogen sulphide scavenger contains a polyaliphatic amine of formula 1: H2NRNH - (RNH)n - H (1), where R is an aliphatic radical and ranges from 0 to about 15 and a catalyst of formula 2: R1R2R3R4N+X- (2), where each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently represents an alkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms, a hydroxyalkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms, or an aryl group containing 6-20 carbon atoms and X represents a halide or methyl sulphate.
