The light-emitting element comprises a first group of phosphor particles and a second group of phosphor particles distributed in a binder matrix, and edges (K) with a roughness of less than 20 mu m. The first group of particles has a first particle size distribution, and the second group of particles has a second particle size distribution that is different from the first particle size distribution. In the first group of particles, 95% of the particles have a largest dimension of 5-30 mu m. In the second group of particles, 95% of the particles have a largest dimension of 0.2-2 mu m. The light-emitting element comprises a first group of phosphor particles and a second group of phosphor particles distributed in a binder matrix, and edges (K) with a roughness of less than 20 mu m. The first group of particles has a first particle size distribution, and the second group of particles has a second particle size distribution that is different from the first particle size distribution. In the first group of particles, 95% of the particles have a largest dimension of 5-30 mu m. In the second group of particles, 95% of the particles have a largest dimension of 0.2-2 mu m. The phosphor particles of the first group comprise a first material such as a first phosphorescent material, and the phosphor particles of the second group comprise a second material. The light-emitting element is a three-dimensional body or is a flat, plate-like fabric, and has a mounting side (2) that has formations, pin-like projections and/or edge-like projections. A surface of the flat, plate-like fabric represents a rectangle, a triangle or an alphanumeric character, and has a thickness of 50 mu m to 2 mm. The pin-like projections and/or edge-like projections have a height of 50 mu m to 1 mm. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method of producing a light-emitting element; and (2) a process of manufacturing a display unit.
