A method and a device for determining a surface characteristic of a stent for implantation in a body lumen is provided, in which a wetting behavior of a stent surface serves as a measure of the surface characteristics of the stent surface. To determine the wetting behavior a course of wetting force along a length of the stent surface is determined, wherein the fitting between the stent surface and a liquid surface wetting force is detected along the stent length.
