The device has a workpiece spindle (1) comprising a workpiece holder (3) for receiving a gear (4), which is driven by a spindle drive (2) and linear axle drive. The workpiece spindle has tool spindle (11) having tool carrier (13) with cutting edge tools (15) to respectively form locking grooves and inclined edge in tooth flanks of teeth of the gear. An electronic controller controls linear axle drives and the spindle drives so that the cutting edge tools are synchronously rotated along linear guides (18) at different speed ratio in both processing. An independent claim is included for method for machining of gears.
