The device (10) has a two-piece adapter connected to an aperture in a bearing- and/or drive unit. The adapter has an electronic sensor module (20) including a sensor (24) i.e. optoelectronic limit switch, attached at a defined position in a hollow chamber (17) of the adapter. The chamber is connected with the aperture so that liquid flows between the bearing- and/or drive unit and chamber. A detection unit detects whether the liquid in the chamber is in a region of the sensor. The module is connected with a monitoring unit, and a transmitting unit transmits sensor data to the monitoring unit.
