The hydrostatic drive (1) has hydraulic motors (8,17) which are provided for driving the drive shafts (2,4). The drive shafts are connected with switchable mechanical transmissions (11,19) for switching between two gear stages (G1,G2) and neutral position (N) respectively. The drive of drive shaft (4) is switched off in the time offset to the switching operation of the transmission (11) in the gear stage (G1). The drive of drive shaft (4) is disabled during load-free connection of the transmission (19), so as to synchronize the rotation speed of hydraulic motor (17).
