The method involves determining correlation metrics between hypotheses, which consist of two sets of demodulation parameters. A signal portion of a digitized communication signal (6) is correlated with a signal portion of a reference signal to be analyzed, where the reference signal is generated from one of the hypotheses. Comparison is made to check whether the result of the correlation lies over a threshold value. Range of the communication signal is stored in a recording buffer within a memory unit (3).
