Solid salts comprise organosilanols, their hydrolysis or condensation products, or organosilanols together with their hydrolysis or condensation products and alkali cations, in which the molar ratio of cations and silicon is 0.5-3, and 1-not 99 mole% of the available organic groups comprise methyl- and ethyl groups and the remaining organo groups comprise at least 4C. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing the solid salts, comprising (i) hydrolyzing the organosilanols of formula ((R 1) aSi(Y 1) b(-Si(R 2) 3-c(Y 1) c) d) (I) or their hydrolysis or condensation products, or (I) together with their hydrolysis or condensation products, in presence of water and basic salt of alkali cations, where the amount of basic salt is selected such that one mole of silicon contains 0.5-3 moles of cations, if the groups of (I) are fluorine, chloride, and bromine, a further mole of basic salt is present per mole of fluorine, chloride, and bromine, and 1-not 99 mole% of the groups R 1and R 2are methyl- and ethyl groups and the remaining R 1and R 2groups comprise at least 4C, (ii) removing the liberated compound of formula (HY 1) as a gas, (iii) removing the water present in the mixture, and (iv) isolating the salt as a solid; and (2) powdered materials comprising the solid salts. R 1, R 2monovalent Si-C-bonded hydrocarbyl (optionally substituted by silyl (substituted by halo, NH 2, thiol, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy), where at least one non-adjacent CH 2- unit may be replaced by -O-, -S-, or (-NR 3), and at least one non-adjacent =CH unit may be replaced by -N=); R 3H, monovalent 1-8C hydrocarbyl (optionally substituted by halo or -NH 2); Y 1H, F, Cl, Br, or (OR 4); either a : 1-3; and b, c, d : 0-3; or b + c : 1; and a + b + d : 4; and R 4monovalent 1-10C hydrocarbyl (optionally substituted by halo or silyl, where at least one non-adjacent CH 2- unit may be replaced by -O-, -S-, or (-NR 3), and at least one non-adjacent =CH unit may be replaced by -N=).
