The method involves measuring current cross-machine grammage profile and setting desired basis weight cross profile by influencing the sectional consistency in the headbox (1). A desired fiber orientation cross profile is attained by enlarging or reducing a nozzle outlet gap (4) by a diaphragm (5) in headbox. The basis weight cross profile and fiber orientation cross profile are integrated in respective control circuits (C,D) that are coupled together. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) headbox; and (2) fibrous web manufacturing machine.
