The control element (11) has a theft security device (14) for securing the control element at a cooking appliance (13). The theft security device is utilized as mechanical or electronic theft security device. The theft security device comprises a deformable connector (15) for fastening the control element at the appliance. The theft security device comprises a holder (16) for fastening the deformable connector at the appliance. A loop-shaped end section (19) of the deformable connector is movably fastened at the control element and/or at the holder. The electronic theft security device is realized by a radio frequency identification label. The deformable connector is a chain or a tear-resistant wire rope.
