The digitized image data of the casing of the filter rod (51) is detected completely or to an extent of 360[deg] along the circumferential direction of the filter rod, by using an optical detection device (30). The distribution of additive material or coating material in the inner side of the filter rod is detected based on the digitized image data of the periphery of the filter rod. The material distribution is calculated immediately beneath the surface of wrapping material or on inner side of coating material in circumferential direction. An independent claim is included for a testing arrangement for testing additive material and coating material of filter rod.
