The valve has a hole (2) formed in a valve body (1), and a valve closing element (3) i.e. ball, with a spherically formed seal surface (4) held in the hole in a stroke-movable manner. The spherically formed seal surface cooperates with a cone shaped valve seat (5), which is arranged between the hole and another hole (6) i.e. stepped hole, in the valve body. The holes and the valve seat are formed coaxial with respect to a common longitudinal axis (A). The former hole is limited by an abutment plate (7), which is aligned coaxial with respect to the common longitudinal axis. An independent claim is also included for a high pressure pump.
