The starter (1) has an electric drive motor that drives a drive shaft (5). A starter pinion (2) is adjusted on the drive shaft. A planetary gear (12) is provided between a motor shaft and the drive shaft. A shaft of a planetary wheel of the planetary gear is inserted in a recess in a planetary carrier. The shaft is made of a raw material with same or greater hardness as the raw material of the planetary carrier. The shaft and the planetary carrier are hardened by a hardening process. An independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing a planetary carrier shaft assembly in a planetary gear.
