The system has a power-electronic circuit comprising a direct current-direct current converter (5), and an energy storage (3) charged by the circuit. An inverter (6) is supplied with electrical energy by the circuit or by the energy storage. A three-phase motor (2) is connected to the inverter, and a control unit controls the circuit and/or the inverter. The circuit and/or the inverter is controlled such that current flows from the energy storage to the circuit and/or to the inverter, where the electric energy is changed into thermal energy and the energy storage is discharged. The motor is designed as a synchronous motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a driving system.
